I've always found the cartoon version to be pretty boring and definitely towards the bottom of the "Classic Disney" movies. So I guess I shouldn't be too surprised that this movie didn't really bring too much to the tea table. I can't say I was really bored because Tim Burton movies usually have something to keep you interested. If you feel like you must watch this movie, wait for it on DVD and keep it on in the background while doing something else. (3/9/2010)
Positives: Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum (AKA the fat boys), the March Hare, and the Queen of Hearts were entertaining. Not enough screen time for the Queen of Hearts.
Negatives: Depp. Did not care for his hatter at all. A) I don't think he was mad enough. B) Times that he was mad he just seemed like a fancier version of Jack Sparrow. It was weird the way his accent changed too. It's like he was a cross between Jack and Willy Wonka, which actually would have made sense but it was just too inconsistent. Also, I just didn't care for the storyline. To be honest, what I would have liked to have seen was a different take on Alice in Wonderland. Keep it in real life, maybe not present time necessarily, but at least real world. That's the way the movie starts off and looking back, I actually cared more about that storyline than what was happening in "Wonderland". they had all the makings for it...her two friends were like tweedle dee and tweedle dum, the mother-in-law to be was like the queen of hearts, and there could have been more. The white rabbit could have been this guy that seems to show up at all the important points in the girls' life and she realizes it's him she's been chasing. Maybe through in a character who really is mad...like fresh out of the nut-house mad. Person with a big smile that seems to get what he wants just by flashing it. There could be a wise old person that gives her adivce just like the caterpillar. I might just have to write this myself...
Spoiler (highlight to read): I give my version a 4.5. (end)

Bly me, the Button got another one right. If you're like me and haven't seen a 3D movie since the age of white paper glasses, then Alice might be worth checking out. Tim Burton's bells and whistles were quite groovy at times.
However, as is common place in the CGI era, Alice's return to Wonderland is all style and no substance. When will Hollywood learn... (4/2/2010)
Positives: 3D.
Negatives: 3D only trailers.
