The Book of Eli

The Book of Eli started out as an intriguing post-apocalyptic action flick but the second half of the film turned preposterous and offered one of the worst movie finishes I've ever seen. Denzel was very good as a mystery man who is trekking across the country to complete an undetermined quest. Of course, a bad guy stands in his way and a woman causes him to stray off his path...shocking...I know. I don't begrudge the predictability of the story but the acting of Gary Oldman (doing an impersonation of Dana Carvey doing an Jack Nicholson impersonation) and Mila Kunis was inexcusable. The film gave us very interesting visuals but it never delivered on the promise provided by the first 20 minutes. (2/4/2010)
Positives: For his age, Denzel really delivers the action.
Negatives: Ending...see spoiler.
Spoiler (highlight to read): Blind? You have to be kidding. I don't buy that for one second. And the movie ends with Mila hitting the road? Worst. Ending. Ever. They left out the prerequisite training montage to make that even remotely believable. And she starts wasting the battery as soon as she hits the road? She'll last three hours out there. I think the bible should have been an audio book on the ipod...now there's a believable twist. Note - the book of note in the book this is based on is the Wizard of Oz. (end)
