E.N.D. by Black Eyed Peas

You can definitely tell that these guys were inspired by “A Tribe Called Quest”, “Digital Underground”, “The Fugees”, “De La Sol”, “Arrested Development”, “The Roots”, just to name a few. They take all those eclectic styles and add their own rock, pop, and flare to it and make it their own. It’s got 70’s 80’s, and 90’s beats and they do a great job of bringing them into the 2000’s. Positives: They do a great job of taking rock-n-roll, hip hop, Indian, carribbean, basically you name it, and infusing it with a futuristic flow. Great album to have on in the background of a party due to the variety of song styles.
Negatives: Although I’m a big BEP fan (not to be confused with “BEP ’98…What What!!), I found myself not really digging the album that much. Maybe b/c it reminded me too much of all those other groups I listed and there’s only a handful of songs from those that I like. I don’t know if Fergie had more of a hand in writing the songs on this album, but there definitely seemed to be more “girly” songs than usual.
