GL: First Flight is the kind of feature that DC and Marvel should be putting on shelves at least once per quarter. It's the cheapest way to tell high quality stories to a mature audience. This movie gives us a very quick glance into Hal Jordan's character before plunging him and the viewer into a cosmic adventure. By not wasting time with his origin, we're given a very meaty story with two big story arcs. I'm not keenly aware of GL history so any distortions from canon didn't bother me. I really enjoyed the story as well as most of the voice acting. Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: SUV) was serviceable as Jordan but Victor Garber as Sinestro was outstanding. One of the finest voice acting jobs I've ever seen. It more than made up for some of the weak alien voices (Kurtwood Smith's voice felt really out of place). So far, GL has been treated very well on the small screen here and in Final Frontier. Let's hope he makes a grand transition to the big screen when Ryan Reynolds brings him to life. (2/19/2010)
Positives: Great action. I loved how Jordan's use of his ring was overtly human in contrast to the way other aliens used theirs. The film also made good use of the fact that these rings' power are based on willpower.
Negatives: Even though this is animation, they should at least try and observe the laws of physics. Unless he was on a planet with no gravity, the leaps a ringless Jordan was making were beyond belief.
