Yet another Miyazaki masterpiece. He toys again with our perception of reality by creating a universe very similar to ours, but adds the tiniest pinch of magic. It's about a pilot who is regarded by some as a hero, while others see him as a pirating thief. Through unexpected events, he sets out to regain his honor. What I loved most about this movie that Miyazaki doesn't actually tell you the 'whole' story. He lets the viewer fill in the blanks himself, reiterating the imagination of this film. (7/30/2007)

Miyazaki's "Crimson Pig" is a bounty hunter pilot who, for some reason, looks like a pig. That's the beginning and the end of the magic in this film but we're still given some fanciful visuals thanks to dogfighting and crazy aerials. But unlike other Miyazaki films, this one is lacking a major storyline and feels like we're simply following the adventures of the pig. I did enjoy parts of it but it simply wasn't as good as you're used to seeing from this amazing director. (11/24/2009)
Positives: Probably one of Miyazaki's funnier films.
Negatives: Horrible English audio track. We watched the Japanese version but explored a few minutes of the English version, which was poorly dubbed and featured a badly miscast Michael Keaton as the pig. Also, the ending was horrendous and you're left with more answers than questions.
