Sherlock Holmes is a great example of a high quality "popcorn movie." Drivel like Transformers try to pass themselves off as this type of film as people make excuses for its subpar quality story and acting but a movie like Holmes restores my faith. The movie is far from flawless but we're delivered a plausible, intriguing story with top notch acting. RDJ and Jude Law give us one of the great movie tandems in recent history. Their chemistry alone makes the movie worth watching. I look forward to a series of these films but I hope that Guy Ritchie can tone down some of the superfluous action and concentrate on the detective aspects of the story. (2/4/2010)
Positives: I loved the gimmick's Ritchie employed to explain Holmes' fighting prowess. Fun stuff.
Negatives: A couple of the action pieces were a complete waste and kept this movie from achieving a higher plane (notable the ship/harbor scene and final battle).
