Well performed with a solid mystery, Shutter Island isn't among director Scorsese's best, but it will entertain you throughout. Two US Marshals played by Leo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo are sent to Shutter Island, basically a giant ward for the criminally insane, to investigate the disppearance of an inmate. Unfortunately, the head physician, played by Ben Kingsley, is less than willing to cooperate, creating obstacle after obstacle for the detectives.

There's a very cool noir/old-time feel to this movie and I kept imagining it as a black & white film. I may have liked it better if I didn't figure out the twist shortly before it was revealed. (7/22/2010)
