Taken

A solid action flick. Liam Neilson was just plain tough. That is the only way to describe him. I might watch it again just to see how many people he actually kills. The first 20 minutes set up everything that is going to happen in the film, and then when his daughter is taken, it's up to him to find her, using his "experience" to help. A few twists, but nothing shocking. It one of the better action suspense films i've seen in a while. I wouldn't spend 12 bucks on it, but maybe a cheap matinee. Something to take your mind off things and be entertained for 95+ minutes. You will leave the movie glad you just watched it. (2/5/2009)

This was a great throw-back to the 80’s type of movie where there wasn’t that much of a plot…just a guy who “has a particular set of skills” trying to get his daughter back. Think Commando for the 00’s…but not as many great one liners. If you’re looking for a good kick-ass kind of movie, then this is the way to go…Unless it’s Saturday night at 1:00 am and “vs” is having a Van Dam marathon. (8/1/2009)
Positives: There is a decent storyline with solid acting. Fight scenes are done really well. No up-close zoom-ins or rotating cameras that cause more confusion than enjoyment. Takes place in Europe so you know there’s going to be a car chase scene.
Negatives: See spoiler
Spoiler (highlight to read): Things work out a little too conveniently for him. I understand he’s good at what he does, but come on. But come on, how can he kill 5 guys in a small kitchen without even getting a scratch? He didn’t shed any blood until the last 5 minutes of the movie. Plus I thought they could have had a better twist with the movie. So Neeson and his friends are sitting around grilling and what not and Uncle Rico asks him if his daughter appreciates everything he’s given up for her. I thought that would be foreshadowing for events to come. So obviously his friends are in the same business as he was, which means they got similar skill set. I figured that they would be the ones responsible for kidnapping his daughter. When Neeson asks his friends to help translate the Albanians, they easily could have given him wrong info to send him on a wild goose chase. He’d eventually save his daughter and she’d finally realize everything he’s given up to be in her life. Or if they wanted to take a different approach, he would have to revert back into his old killing ways to save his daughter and in doing so would realize that he can’t retire from this b/c he’s too good at what he does. But then again, 80’s movies weren’t exactly known for their twisting plots and in-depth character development. (end)

Top notch action isn't enough to keep this film from drowning in a sea of subpar acting (Maggie Grace), bad plot contrivances (the jacket...really?) and worse accents (Liam Neeson cannot handle an American accent....be very afraid for A-Team reboot). The Jason Bourne-esque action was enjoyable even though it takes a lot of camera tricks to make a man that old move that quickly. Watch this one with your finger on the fast forward button.
