I know as a kid I saw the first part of Willow, but I think my memory filled in the rest with bits and pieces from Masters of the Universe and Wizard of Oz. Which I guess isn't too bad of a description of the movie. Since it's kind of a quest movie, maybe throw in some Lord of the Rings type of feel to it...sort of a Masters of the Rings of Oz. Anyway, Willow is the "chosen" dwarf, or vertically challenged person, to set forth on a journey that could save their little world. As you can imagine in true epic fantasy fashion, he crosses paths with several characters and monsters along the way. (4/28/2010)
Positives: Val Kilmer's portrayal of Madmartigan. It's like a cross between Brad Pitt's Achilles and John Ritter's Jack Tripper. A fierce fighter who is a little off the wall. Also, for the time, the visuals were pretty good. I was impressed with the dog-like creatures...how simple yet effective throwing a boar outfit on a dog and letting it run wild.
Negatives: Unfortunately I found the movie to go real slow. Espeically about half way in. I think a few of the scenes could have been cut out and it wouldn't affect the movie. I also kept expecting Gwildor to show up...see spoiler.
Spoiler (highlight to read): He didn't. (end)
