Woody killing zombies would have been enough to attract me to this movie, but whadda-you know, this thing was actually a fun flick to boot. Less-quirky-Michael-Cera-clone Jesse Eisenberg works well as the central character in this horror comedy that also stars Amber Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) as the younger half of a manipulative sister duo. The premise: in a world gone to hell after a zombie-apocalypse, several survivors meet up on a cross country trek to reach a zombie-free promised land. The gore is nasty, the humor is above average, and the story keeps you interested for a brisk 90 minutes. Bring on the sequel!

Spoiler (highlight to read): Plus, a sweet Bill Murray cameo. (end)

I've seen my fair share of zombie movies, always giving them a chance, but never EVER liking them. The idea of brainless flesh eating monsters that take over the world is rather boring to me. Give me shape changing werewolves, or ageless intelligent blood sucking vamps. BUT...... after decades of terribly bad zombie movies, Zombieland finally got it right! Woody's twinkie cravings, conniving girls, and a by-the-book geek make up this well-conceived cast. Have fun taking down those zombies, and remember Rule #4... Double Tap!! (5/24/2010)
Spoiler (highlight to read): bill murray's cameo was awesome! (end)

Zombieland was a fun roller coaster ride but it didn't quite live up to the standard for zombie comedies set by Shaun of the Dead. Staring the suddenly (well deserved) popular Woody Harrelson and Jesse "don't call me Michael Cera" Eisenberg, this film was created with a TV series in mind and it has an "episodic" feel to it. There's no grand plan self contained in the plot; the story is simple one chapter in the story of these characters (ie. expect sequels). I really liked the chances the director took with camera work and highlighting the "rules". It gave the film a comic book feel that felt completely appropriate. The plot turns made sense for the most part, but a few huge gaffes in logical decision making irked me. But I'd definitely watch a sequel. (6/15/2010)
Positives: Woody's Tallahassee character was great. Definitely the highlight of the film.
Negatives: Thankfully the gore present in the opening title wasn't present in the rest of the film. My stomach couldn't have handled it!
Spoiler (highlight to read): An interview with the writers highlighted the many, many celebs they tried to get for the big cameo...JCVD, Joe Pesci, Sly Stallone, etc. (end)
